The Matterhorn, with Julie and Anthony

Julie and Anthony arrived at the Zermatt train station at 6:15 PM.

The AirBnB write up said it was 99 steps up to our apartment. Up being the operative word. It was actually 35 more steps. But the view from the apartment was well worth the climb.

(Julie was looking for AirBnb’s with nice kitchens. She readily admits she did not pay attention to the fine print for this particular rental.)

The Matterhorn is pretty incredible.

On Friday, Julie and Anthony took the cablecar up to Gornergrat.

Looking down on Zermatt

At the Furi station, Julie and Anthony caught the train to Gornergrat.

So many glaciers

The Gornergrat is a vantage point for viewing many glaciers, with the main ones being the Gorner Glacier and the Grenzgletscher (Border Glacier). Other smaller glaciers visible include the Zwillingsgletscher, Schwärzegletscher, Breithorngletscher, and Unterer Theodulgletscher, though some of these are no longer connected to the Gorner Glacier system due to climate change.

This was the happiest Julie had been on the trip. Her soul was singing.

Three photos zooming in on the falls.

At the top. Viewing platforms, restaurants, bathrooms.

Our plan was to walk down to where we caught the cable car.

The Matterhorn

We got to the next train station down the line and decided we did not have enough time to walk the rest of the way. It was still an amazing experience.

View from the gondola down into Zermatt

During the summer, the goats are brought down each day and paraded through town. So if Zermatt smells a little goaty to you, that’s why.

This may be a bit too remote for Julie

Anthony wanted to document the ascent to our AirBnb.

Here he is at the beginning of the 99 steps. To the right is a view of our rental… at the very top.

No matter where you go….

Anthony at our door. He made it (again)!

The view never got old

Edelweiss!!!

Julie and Anthony finally see edelweiss on the way the train leaving Zermatt
