Rhine Falls
18 July 2025
Author’s Note: Julie and Anthony enjoyed Rhine Falls so much that they decided to post the photos now while the trip was fresh in their minds (and we are a month behind on the blog.) New photos from our lovely visit to Zurich will appear… eventually.
On 18 July 2025, Julie and Anthony took a short train ride north to Rhine Falls.
Quamelius Albathryn Grunfus - The Nessie of the Rhine.
Julie used Alltrails to find the circular trail, which followed the Rhine River down stream to a bridge and back up to the falls. We picked up lunch at a deli above the falls, and started around the trail.
We started at the purple pointy bit on the lower left of the map above. Crossed the bridge above the falls, then walked clockwise down the blue, orange and purple routes across the lower bridge and back to the falls.
Why do there always have to be stairs?
We weren’t sure, until we took at closer look, but there were people on top of the rock in the middle of the falls!! How did they get there?? and how could we get up there??
Julie and Anthony crossed this pedestrian/train bridge above the falls. Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall is in the background.
Very excited to ride a boat into the falls
One of the few clear views of the river. Very shady.
Lunch
At the lower walking bridge, looking downstream, into Germany.
View of the falls from down stream. Be warned, coming up are a ridiculous number of pictures of Rhine falls.
How’d this cow get here?
Julie and Anthony caught the pink boat near the tower for the 30 minute cruise.
Julie could live here
As is her wont, Julie saw a number of houses she liked on the cruise.
Or here…..
This viewpoint cost extra, so we skipped it
The Boat captain brought Julie and Anthony close to the face of the falls.
Ah ha!!! There is a little boat dock and stairs!!!
Cute little bats live here, so Julie and Anthony were told (by the audio guide).
Julie and Anthony noticed the yellow boat brought passengers to a dock between the right and left sides of the falls, providing access to the big rock. So of course we did that too!
Our yellow boat captain expertly navigated the raging currents of the falls to dock at the big rock
Amazing views of Rhine falls, but first the stairs.
One last view of Rhine Falls from the boat on the way back to Zurich.
