Anthony and Julie in Prater Park
Sunday sees Julie and Anthony in Vienna.
Julie and Anthony pick up a two day pass for the Big Bus Tour. The hop on - hop off buses are a good way to get a quick overview of a city. There is a cheerful commentary, in English, throughout the ride.
The Votive Church
The Maria Theresa Monument
Maria Theresa ruled the Hapsburg empire from 1740 to 1780. She was the only female Hapsburg ruler. She inherited a weakened empire and spent her reign rebuilding. She instituted financial, medical and educational reforms, among others, which made her very popular.
Some nifty wall art
The Danube
The Urania is an observatory, educational center and a historical landmark. Plus it looks cool.

St Charles’s Church
Hop on Hop off on July 1.
The Vienna Opera House and the Museum Quarter
The Volkstheater
Anthony thought this look cool
The Maria Vom Siege Church
More wall art
The Schonbrunn Palace
Anthony was very interested in the Siege of Vienna, which was the first attempt by the Ottoman Empire to capture Vienna (1529). Since we had not visited any museums yet, Julie had no good excuses. The Vienna Museum was just around the corner from St Charles’s Church shown above.
Julie and Anthony then decided to do some silly things.
View from the hotel
Tuesday evening, Julie and Anthony visited the Prater, the amusement park in Vienna.
Welcome to the Prater
The Riesenrad
The Riesenrad is an iconic landmark of Vienna. It has appeared in many movies.
Below are pictures from the ferris wheel
On Wednesday, Julie and Anthony took a cruise on the Danube in the famous Wachau Valley

A little bigger than Julie would want
Maybe Julie and Anthony could just live in a turret
Wading in the Danube on a hot summer’s day.
The Minoritenkirche or the Friars Conventual Church
Tea at Landtmann’s, 100 Fahrenheit. Anthony felt that a trip to Vienna was not complete if we did not go to one of the cafes.
The Vienna City Hall
On Thursday we visited the Sigmund Freud Museum
Cool doorway around the corner from the Freud museum
Schubert and Strauss monuments in the park across from our hotel.
It was so hot…..
